Alpine Visitor Center at the Top

* Alpine visitor Center - A chance to make a "pit stop" before you begin your journey to the other side or return to your favorite side. Elevation: 11,796 feet.

This is an illustration of what happens in the winter. You can only see the top of the building above and below is that same building in the summer. Can you imagine being covered almost to the roof with snow. The logs on the roof help hold the roof down in winter. The winds at the top can exceed 150 mph.

This snow was still pilled up at about 12 ft. or more at the visitor center. It is amazing that the snows last that long. When we are traveling up the mountain there is at least a 10 degree difference in temperature. It is a dirty snow, but it is still snow!
