We left the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) on June 14. We decided to drive on Hwy. 40 that goes through Winter Park, CO. We would drive through Berthoud Pass, elevation 11,315 ft.
We still had 3000 + ft. to go before we were over the pass. Because we were pulling the 5th wheel we decided to turn around and not chance going any further, better to be safe than sorry. The snow was beautiful! So we turned around and went another way that took us about 1 1/2 hour longer but well worth the peace of mind knowing we wouldn't be in snow!
As we drove it began to rain a little and then it turned to snow in a hurry. We were at about 8000 ft. when the road started getting slushy.
