Colorado National Monument!

Colorado National Monument was established May 24, 1911. A variety of wildlife live at the Monument, including bighorn sheep, golden eagles, mule deer and mountain lions. We didn't see any animals.

Sheer-walled canyons, monoliths, colorful formations, bighorn sheep, soaring eagles and a spectacular road reflect the environment and history of plateau-and-canyon country.

The road (the Rim Rock Drive) then follows the edge of the plateau for 20 miles, giving access to various viewpoints and trailheads, then passes the main visitor center and camping area, before winding down equally steeply and through two more tunnels before re-crossing the Colorado into Fruita.

All day long it felt like we were driving into a postcard.
